Wrap up of 2013 Club Marine Insurance Barra Nationals.

A total of 691 fish caught, with 9 fish over a metre. There were 61 teams competing on the Daly River, NT.

Conditions were settling after a single short, but significant flood. An extended wet season is preferred for good fishing, but it didn’t happen in 2012/13.

The comp started with lots of casting around feeder creek mouths such as Elizabeth and Catfish. Towards the end of the five days some fish were taken by trolling down the middle.

The biggest barra was 110cm caught by Darren Wild from Team Tackle Back.

Top 5 teams were
1. Cunning Stunts 2213pts
2. Polar Bears 1430pts
3. Horse Whisperers 1365pts
4. Top End Tackle World 1348pts
5. Team Koolabung Lures 1299pts

Individual standings top 5.
1. Matthew Bennett 1011pts
2. Len Schneider 987pts
3. Brendan Flynn 975pts
4. Stephen Bennet 836pts
5. Shane Moon 789pts

Champion female angler was Rocky Edwards with 465pts.

Long-time NT fishos said it was incredibly hot on the water, but visiting southern competitors kept the fluid intake up and there were no heat-related incidents.

The next comp on the Daly this year will be the Barra Classic, which will enjoy more settled conditions.
